York Ebor Meeting

I don’t usually find myself in tears at the end of a flat race. His dad used to have he same affect on me. What a horse!

I'm so pleased for Haggas too. Smashing trainer and comes across as a genuinely lovely bloke.

Yes you could see at the 2 furlong from home marker what he was threatening to do and then he just took off.

Frankels 2000 Guineas blew me away and that was early in Frankels career and watching Baaeed there gave me the same feeling.

Cracking spectacle, run at a searing pace - best I've seen since Frankel, and may improve again over further, but why would they bother?

I wish people would stop comparing him to Frankel. Sea Bird Frankel and Secretariat were in a different class entirely.

Baaeed went off at 4/9 was it? Frankel would have been 1/25 to win that race

Haggas put Chapman in his place when he was going on about running him in the Arc. Haggas adamant that he is going to finish in the Champion Stakes at Ascot. So just the one more race to enjoy him.

For what it's worth, I'm not convinced Mishriff has run as well as when winning last year.

Full Result 3.35 York | 17 August 2022 | Racing Post

Dubai Honour in fourth is a 117 horse and just in front of him Sir Busker 115 and he missed the break. I think those two are the guide to the level. Maybe Mishriff slightly overdid things chasing the pace, taking his finish away from him.

Rating the race through Dubai Honour, beaten nine lengths, puts Baaeed on 134 plus whatever he had in reserve.

I think Sea The Stars posted something like 138 in this race. (I'll check the RP result - I binned all my archive stuff when I moved house.)

My rating for Frankel was off the scale so comparisons with him are meaningless other than their having won the same races.

The performance today probably confirms Baaeed as the best horse in the world but not the best of all time.

Best since Frankel yes, maybe a similar level to his sire. And probably eclipsed Dayjur as the best Shadwell/Hamdan horse.

Just watched the opener again.

King Of Stars must have gone a good half-length in front and then stopped. Idling? Ungenuine? Lonely?

I'll be rating him the winner.

Wasn't this race. The Eclipse and Irish Champion were his two best runs on the ratings. Pissed up here but in a very small field.

His sire sometimes gets overlooked in my humble opinion - he really was a horse of a lifetime.
No point in stretching Baeed for one race distance wise. Maybe they think they should have tried today's trip before who cares? He's a superstar, end of. Frankel didn't run over 1m 4 either, I don't understand why people think Baeed should try it? Horses that win emphatically over sprint distances don't have people clamouring to run them over a mile/mile one/mile two. Some not built to do all things so just enjoy them as they are.

David O’Meara obviously takes a trainer’s version of my approach to punting in these big handicaps, going in mob-handed. He sent five to the Golden Mile and took the first two places with his other three runners all in the first nine. He has six here and I wouldn’t rule out a similar outcome. I wouldn’t be too keen on anything drawn in double figures although they do occasionally throw up a winner but the highest successful draw since 2002 is 18. That might make life difficult for Young Fire in 20. I’m going to nominate Brunch (12/1 taken) as the main selection since the trainer has top-rated Northern Express (10/1) in the field but Beasley prefers this one. They’ve probably had to gamble on getting the latter in without earning a penalty to do so and Dods is a good target trainer, witness Commanche Falls in the Stewards’ Cup. Echo Point’s form with Noble Dynasty is not working out at all but if any rain comes it might help him. It could be that the race in which they finished first and second was a very hard one but Echo Point at least has had more time recover. He had been 2/5f when disappointing in a handicap off 92 in Meydan in the spring so he is clearly well thought of and improved for the drop back to this trip last time. There is no shortage of unexposed types too. The likes of Boosala, Bass Player, Saga, Tyrrhenian Sea and Shining Blue could end up better than handicappers. I plan to back the first two of those with some small bets also on Blue For You, Rhoscolyn and What’s The Story for cover but even then I wouldn’t be confident of finding the winner. It’s a hugely competitive race and if they stay over on the far rail in straight there could be some hard-luck stories.

I haven't lit on any back-up bets yet and will now wait until the morning.
