2010 Two year olds

Disappointing. The winner looked quite nice. I wonder will these Sheikh Mo horses (Marnane's I think goes on Sunday in the Round Tower) stay with their trainers next season or go off to Godolphin?

It would be a bit farcical if they only got one horse each (or was it 2?) and then they are taken away if they are any good. At least the relationship with Johnston and Fabre is explicit in this sense, but you would hope it is not the same with those in Ireland (whilst all the time fearing it is).

They got 2 each. Marnane, Halford, Lyons, Bolger, Oxx and Weld.
4 of them have had 1 run each with a 50% winning strikerate. Fred Archer (Marnane) and Casamento (Halford) won well on their debuts. His Excellency (Oxx) didn't show much on debut, while Showboating (Marnane) ran reasonably well.

Could be worth following.

Michael Halford unleashed a smart-looking colt at Tipperary this evening as Casamento took the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Maiden.
Running in the famous maroon and white silks of Sheikh Mohammed, the son of Shamardal was soon at the head of affairs and not at all stretched to come home a smooth two and a half lengths clear of Cannon Hill.
The 8-1 winner was the second leg of a treble for Gary Carroll, who was standing in for the injured Shane Foley on the Halford youngster.
Halford said: "He is a very nice horse, we got him at the backend of last year.
"He is big and still a bit babyish, but we've always liked him and he's always shown plenty at home.
"We're just delighted to get him started.
"It wasn't the plan to make the running, but Gary said he jumped well and settled in front and he picked up and stretched well.
"He has got plenty of size and scope and I'd expect him to come on plenty for this.
"We have him in the National Stakes and we'll have to discuss where we'll go next.
"I also have a Dubawi colt for Sheikh Mohammed. He is a May foal and not as well forward at the moment."

I got the ground completely wrong for this earlier in the week suggesting there could be some ease in the ground. I based it on the forecast but the rain never materialised. A shower today other than that it has been a bright and breezy day so the ground will be very lively indeed.

Good effort by Zebedee there - hope they run him in the Flying Childers rather than attempting another sales race in which he might not get the trip .

I am a big fan of Memory and I suspect she will be better over 7f. I would not back her however at current prices as the Hannon yard is rather below form at present Zebedee notwithstanding some have run pretty poorly this last 10 days or so.

On ratings Memory is rated the same as Laughing Lashes. More I look at the race the more I am sure she will drift a bit tomorrow - far too short in the betting against some quality looking opposition.

Be interesting to see how far Misty For Me stays - out of a Storm Cat mare but there is some stamina in the family as well.

Robin Hood arguably lets the Pathfork form down slightly after getting smashed in a listed race at Haydock.

He was not really that well backed to be honest but very dissapointing indeed. I can see myself smashing into Dunboyne Express in the National Stakes but that will hardly be a shock to anyone.

Long Live The King struck me as a nice type today at Leopardstown. Lengthy type who looked to be carrying a fair deal of condition.

Looking at the forecast, Dunboyne Express should certainly have the ground in his favour next Saturday.

Have the Curragh been watering in anticipation of the forthcoming heavy rain? :D
Seriously though, are we looking at Dunboyne, Pathfork, and Zoffany (and whatever else turns up)?

No Dunboyne Express...

Saamidd is entered in a conditions race at Doncaster - you do wonder how these people keep their jobs.
