Bloodstock News 2010

Have just found thoroughbredstallions.com - interesting thread about lush lashes to be covered by sea the stars. Also quite a lot of info about 2010 foals

Well, took SONGSHEET and the ISHIGURU ex PETROVNA filly over to Trickledown today, for them to finish the prep on the filly and for Songy to get at least half the way to BAHAMIAN BOUNTY.. The filly had never set hoof off the place til today but travelled like an old hand alongside the old bird and walked nicely off the box into her new quarters. While Songy barged off, yelling her head off announcing she was back....

The filly will hopefully appear at Tatts on Feb 4th and is one good-looking youngster, so I hope she finds a decent owner as she's very racy and so far has been as tough as they come.

Saw our DIAMOND GREEN - SONGSHEET 2yo colt, who is now well into his prep for the Donny breeze up in April and so far, so good. His eye doesn't bother him a bit and the uveitis hasn't flared up since since his foal days, so he should vet OK now and he's also a good-looking colt. Just hope he stays sound and shows some ability.

Just in case Turtle's fan misses the news under the New Members thread...

From the RP:

TURTLE ISLAND, sire of Sunday's Irish Arkle Chase winner An Cathaoir Mor, will stand this season at Allevamento Torre di Canicarao in Sicily.
The Irish 2,000 Guineas-winning son of Fairy King has stood in recent seasons at Coolmore's Beeches Stud in County Waterford.
He has carved out a good reputation as a dual-purpose sire, having supplied 2,000 Guineas winner Island Sands in his first crop and going on to provide high-class jumps performers including Scolardy, Liskennet and Bensalem.
His latest star in the jumps sphere is An Cathaoir Mor, whorocketed up ante-post betting lists for the Arkle at the Cheltenham Festival after shooting down better fancied rivals Sports Line and Take The Breeze to win the Irish Arkle at Leopardstown.
Turtle Island will command a fee of €5,000 this year and will stand alongside Imperial Ballet.

Interesting news

Coolmore in the hunt
for Starspangledbanner

By Nancy Sexton 4:00PM 28 JAN 2010
A DEAL to secure the stud services of Caulfield Guineas winner Starspangledbanner appears to have fallen the way of Coolmore, according to a report in theage.com.au.
The three-year-old son of Choisir - himself secured in a similar way by the Irish-based outfit during his racing career - is set to make his next appearance in Saturday's Group 1 Lightning Stakes at Flemington.
''This colt beat Denman, So You Think and Trusting, and all three are exceptional colts and will be valuable stallion prospects in the future,'' said Coolmore Australia's general manager Michael Kirwan of the colt, who has been valued at between A$6 million-A$10 million.
"He has a terrific pedigree and is a lovely looking individual. He'll make a great addition to our team if we are lucky enough to secure him."
According to the colt's owner Brad Spicer, the deal's completion could see Starspangledbanner join Aidan O'Brien in 2011 for a Royal Ascot campaign.
Starspangledbanner is the third foal out of the stakes-placed Gold Anthem, a daughter of Made Of Gold from the immediate family of Elvstroem and Haradasun.

He's a superstar. Choisir stands for 6k if Starpangled was able to reproduce his form up here it would give Choisir some boost.

I see choisir has been taken off the coolmore website , getting a facelift or was starspangled purchased to replace him....

Things were as desperate in NZ and Oz as they were here and Ireland, but not so in France. I have a friend who breeds and races horses in NZ, and he's e-mailed to say he's lost a fortune in the past two years - sales way down, and little uptake on some nice race-ready animals he was trying to promote for syndication. It's as well that some people are backed up by other enterprises not connected to racing, or most would be going bust or near-bust if they relied on it solely for their daily bread.

That is true about NZ, where I am currently on holiday. Last year's Karaka sale showed a 33% drop, it will be interesting to see how this year's sale, which is held this week, goes. Not very well, I imagine.

I don't get the impression that the New Zealand economy is in as a good a state as the Australian one.

Incidentally, the big Karaka sales race, worth $1,000,000NZ, was run yesterday at a rainy Ellerslie (a twilight meeting, rather strangely), where the OZ raider Sister Havana won the 1200m event in front of a what looked a pretty sparse crowd. Getting the meeting to exactly clash both with the climax to the NZ Open golf as well as Men's Finals day at the Australian tennis was a masterpiece of scheduling.

Ven, if you're attending, he might be there. His name is Charles Everest, and he left Zambia in the early 1960s to ride out for Mrs Dingwall. Not sure which man's name she had to borrow as her training name. Charles later left the UK to work in international hotels for an uncle. His crowning achievement as a young man learning the business was in Nigeria, where on being asked politely by a couple of smart gentlemen which suite Minister X was in, he expertly directed them to the minister's rooms.

A few moments later, there was a rapid BANG-BANG-BANG! and the two gents exited considerably faster than on arrival, firing a few 'keep back' shots around the lobby, where an aghast Charles stood quivering. They'd - very politely - assassinated the minister.
