Dundalk 2011

6.30 Ballroom.

Trying not to be dazzled by connections, but Storm Cat x Virginia Waters. I've decided that 14/1 is big enough just in case she that much better than them all.

Switching stables now. The Bolger horse looks fairly consistent and is dropping back a level after a listed placing.

8.30 Less to interest me here, I'll follow OTB in on Barrow Island, but taking weight in to account is against my principles. A [very] speculative bet on Cornakill just in case they have found the key over the winter.

Brilliant win, and a major sigh of relief for us to see the stable back in form!! Delighted for Tom too, a long time to be worrying about the form of the horses, lets hope he can kick on now and have a good year. With a certain horse rattling up a sequence. I wouldnt be adverse to running every day.

9.25 What wins? O'brien's? Or the highly tried Palinode, who improved for a run last season and will presumably do so again? Has the fewest doubt at the trip too.

Posted similar on Twitter. Please join the thread any Friday you're spare. There only so much of the Del and OTB show I can put up with :D

Trying to get you lads thinking about Dundalk tonight, obviously I only succeeded in confusing you.

I think Bible Black is cert as long as he doesn't head for the parade ring mid-race again. Lyons could double up in the next and I like Harringtons in the follwing maiden.

Aha!!!

One lumpy bet on Bible Black in the first - he got murdered a few times the last day and that looked a reasonable race. This may not just be as hot. Looks a very dubious card from a punting point of view later. Elliots fancy theirs in the second last - so will play up a little if BB does the job.

Discussing the same race with someone on e-mail who takes your viewpoint.

My reply ...

"Poking in the dark a little aren't we? Unraced O'Brien, Deegan, Lynam, and the only other horse with form wouldn't be a no hoper.

The runner up got beaten at Beverley next time out. I would expect a horse who nearly won a maiden at Dundalk to scoot up in a Beverley maiden against first time outers. Granted he would have won by 7l if his well backed stablemate wasn't in the race. I suppose you could take that either as a positive or negative depending on your level of optimism."

I like Sikara later in the card. Seems at least a fair rating on what she's done so far, and she looks sure to improve. I don't know the jockey, but a decent record so far this year.

Over 5f I'd expect the race to be over before the new horses figure out what's going on. Having said that I do admire Deegans ability to have a horse ready. The dam is a half sis to Elnadim.

Nice looking card tonight and Ger Lyons looks like the man to follow.

Bible Black in the first of course was either unlucky the last day or the horse is a c**t. Depending on which way you look at it he’s either a back or a lay at a probable short price. Personally I think he’s a back. Progeny of Big Bad Bob have shown to be nothing but genuine and I’ll be forgiving him the last run. Murtagh up is always a positive. He’s in safe hands.

Red Army Blues ran very well the last day, the line just came too early for him. Up 4lbs for that run. Considering Lyons horses generally improve for their 1st run I still think this horse is on a winning mark in what looks a weak enough handicap.

A nice Lyons/Murtagh double to open proceedings.

The 8:30 looks very competitive. Printmaker travelled well throughout on his final run last season at Leopardstown without quickening at the business end of the race. The ground was soft that day and i’d imagine he’ll be better on better ground. This fella is a huge horse and should strip fitter tonight after having a run in what may have been a hot enough maiden. Rated 79, I feel he’s on a winning mark although Red Shaheen, Sikara and Nucals Start all appear to be similarly treated, to me anyway.

Casbah Rock may need the run in the 9.00 but I have no doubt this horse is on a winnable mark. With some of the Lyons’ horses being turned inside out this season, I feel this one could very well be in that category. Dropped from a rating of 76 to 61, I think he’s worth taking the risk on that he’ll be fit enough for tonights race. A competitive race with the likely dangers coming from Sounds of Thunder and Hassanali. A combination tricast maybe...
