King George VI Chase 2014

Conti for me but have some cover with CF. Can't see any reason the others will be good enough at 3m.

Colin Tizzard on Cue Card,

"It was possibly his best ever run when he won the Betfair Chase last season and we really fancied him to follow up in the King George at Kempton, but his head went up two out and he was passed by Silviniaco Conti before running on again.

"While he missed the rest of the season and he's been only fourth in his two runs this year, I'm convinced he's still as good as ever.

"His run in the Betfair last time out was disappointing, but he blew for a long time afterwards which suggests we had left him short. He has really started to blossom over the last three weeks and I have him spot-on for the King George. He'll definitely run a massive race."

While he has wins at Ascot and Exeter is CC not better left handed ?
If you cannot hold your line and jump straight at Kempton the ground falls away from you and you are a lost cause.
It holds for all the runners of course and maybe CF especially. I would love to see CC win too though Johns Spirit would help my 10 to follow plight.

I've backed Champagne Fever at 4/1 because that what I do unless he at odds at which I don't play. That said, for all the reasons that have been given so far in this thread I don't really see him as a betting proposition in this race. Normally when I bet, like most of you, I expect to win or at least make a profit. Silvi is the proven horse but a fighting fit Al Ferof could beat him in the right conditions. Cue Card is an enigma for me but is probably just a little short of class though horses of his calibre have won this.

Fever has the potential to be a superstar and I love his running style. For me his is the wild stallion that leads and rules the herd. The point about is midseason performances is well made but that may be down to Mullin's training programme. Could it be that they are assessing where he currently stands against the opposition, I don't know. However I can't wait for the race. I think I've almost put off some of our guests for Boxing Day by saying how much I'm looking forward to it rather than mentioning the pleasure of their company.

You've given me an idea, TS...

It was surreptitiously slipped into the conversation the other day that Orchidette has invited her young man to our house on Boxing Day, just as I was looking forward to an afternoon in front of the telly. That's another big meal I have to cook and serve when I could be indulging myself.

(Fortunately he isn't a forumite.)

and what if wonderful spirit is there to rush him along..no one has replied to my query on that..i'll say it again..if WS is there to bustle the pace up..the race is SC's

Personally I doubt they would sacrifice a horse of Wonderful Charm's calibre, especially as they aren't in the same ownership. Why would the owner consent to it?

That said, didn't John Hales get an almighty strop on because he thought Neptune Collonges had been used to make the pace for KS and Denman in the Gold Cup?

her "young man"?.

will you be standing in the wardrobe then?

What is it about Champagne Fever -does he try so hard that he can only produce his best a couple of times every season.I would like to see him win but his record at this time of year has to be a worry.
I'm starting to buy into Cue Card.

The owner wouldn't consent to a run in the RSA last season.

He's a daft price for this, should be way shorter than John's Spirit.

His jumping was exemplary last year and much better than in this years Betfair. If he's back in that form and on better ground, he has to go close

If he's back to the level of form he's shown before, he wins. Cue Card's proximity to Sprinter Sacre on more than one occasion entitles him to be considered the 'class act' in the race, whilst Champagne Fever is the potential. But there is an obvious downside to this which his price reflects. Does he stay? is he fit? might he throw in one of his bad rounds?

I think he was in the process of winning the race last year when he stopped. That he was subsequently found to be injured and the way he stopped does make me wonder if the two events aren't mutually exclusive

Much has been said of CF's seasonal pattern, and its there for all to see. I'd be more interested to back in March, but this has been a mild winter so far. Is this pattern a reaction to Mullins training schedules? is it a reaction to winter ground? Or is it genuinely a reaction to temperature and daylight hours? - it could also be a quirk in normal distribution of data of course

I would be worried about a horse that's 1 from 5 (20%) in the months of Dec & Jan, yet 8 from 11 (72%) outside of this
I do wonder also if there isn't the beginnings of another pattern based around April & May which suggests that perhaps he's vulnerable to going over the top having been peaked for a target. It's not as pronounced as yet, but there's some evidence to suggest it could exist

Paul Keely's built up a following in the last few years in particular where he's enjoyed strong performance. He slated the horses price today

I am an absolute believer in Cue Card's ability, but I am 100% a pessimist that he will win a King George.

He does not stay.
