Very unlucky news given the splint is just a vestigial bone of no benefit to anyone except the vet x raying or removing it when it causes trouble.
My uncles horse Brave Run had a splint removed as a 5 year old in 1985, cannot remember if was fractured or not. It usually just swells in yearlings and 2 year olds undergoing too much exercise.
