Royal Ascot 2020

Reckon Crossed Baton 1.50 looked all at sea at Lingfield on his last run, and ran a piece better than his rating allows. First time pieces on again today and looks a sold wager @ Hills 12/1.

Looks like there's been a fair bit of overnight rain.

I'll be easing right off today and keeping financial involvement to a minimum.

I hope it doesn't detract from the spectacle and that it doesn't stop Stradivarius from bagging his hat-trick.

Race 1 - I've taken Maori Knight at 13/2. He's 6lbs well in and 5lbs better in than anything else on ORs so he should arguably be half those odds at best. I've backed an outsider too and put it on the longshot thread.

More to follow.

I am actually on Regal Reality along with Maori Knight. I took a better price on the latter than what he is now.

Regal Reality has drifted a bit...ground concerns?

If he improves a few pounds from the gelding operation he will be right in the mix.

I really hope Stradivarius wins the Gold Cup but for the sake of a betting interest I've taken Moonlight Spirit each-way at 4/1 without the favourite. If he finishes second to Strad I'll be happy enough.

Ground is probably going to make significant difference so I shall watch with interest the first few races and could make changes.
Hypothetical plus Highland Chief ew
Sir Dragonet (one of my cliff horses)
King Leonidas And Monarch of Egypt
Battleground (do like Golden Flame as well)
leaving GC
Verboten I put in book after last run plus Khaloosy ew
Soffika plus Waliyak ew
All a bit obvious and as I said it could yet change

In the last race I've taken 2/1 the favourite African Dream. She's gone up 16lbs in the ratings but gets in here off her old mark so in theory just needs to run her race to win easily. There's a chance 2/1 will look like value at about 4.42pm.

So, African Dream is 16lbs well in, Finest Sound is 7lbs well in and Maori Knight is 6lbs well in and all are very backable prices in the circumstances. That's the multiples sorted!

Monarch Of Egypt was coming with a run that would have taken him to at least 2nd against Siskin, stopped dead in his tacks...Soft ground ???

I think the ground was fine for him. He handled it OK at Chester. But the winner got first run and in the softened conditions it is extremely hard to peg one back.

He was taken out of a race at Newmarket last backend because of it.
JG quote from last season:
his best ground would be good to firm. He is a big boy but with not big feet and flows over faster ground.
ps Didn't expect the ground to be that bad myself. :(

Majestic!

What a horse, the best stayer ive ever seen and he'll win 5 Gold cups if he stays in training

That was brilliant!

Yes well done Strad, Frankie, and Co.

I was (am?) really sweet on Starcat but I see he is drawn in stall one. All the major contenders are drawn high.
