The Oaks 2012

I pencilled in BetterBetterBetter as my fancy for this a few days ago. Good to see the positive comments on here.

Agreed Euro,

Don't get me wrong it's nice to see everyone doing these write ups but for me I'd rather back a 6/4 winner at Beverley than attempting to put all my energy in finding an Oaks or Derby winner - you don't get any extra points.

He's won the French 1000 twice, the 1000 Gns once, and the Derby once. He's also won a couple of Irish Legers, if they count.

I cannot have The Fugue at the prices though hugely respecting connections. She was supposedly injured in the Guineas but showed no ill effects in her trial. This will be only be her fourth run and shes a big lump of a filly who may not handle the track. Maybe likewise is very short too... have her at 6/1 but will be looking for a saver. If Betterbetterbetter figures what price will Princess Highway be for the ribbesdale?

We don't have a thread for the Investec Zebra Handicap ?
I was wondering if Roger Varian's Ittirad would be suited by Epsom's camber.

Is The Fugue overly big? Gosden has said recently that she's a nippy typethat he expects will handle the track, didn't see her in the paddock myself (was in the bar!) but she was described as close-coupled by the Timeform paddock man there.

I honestly think 3/1 is still a good price. For me she has the best form, will handle the track, and could improve the trip. Maybe has significant stamina questions to answer for me. Vow's Lingfield Oaks Trial form needs improving on more than the Musidora form, and Kissed, well it can't be good for her claims that the stable are all over Maybe. Wouldn't be surprised if Beckett's reverses the form with Vow. Kailani might be the danger, but only because I've not seen enough of her to work out the negatives!

I agree with the improvement Vow needs to make but she has the scope to do so. No way does the form get reversed unless the jockey has a Freddie Head moment. I see The Fugue as the danger and have doubled her with Camelot as cover.

Bruce, not sure what the write ups have to do with BBB's chances, but just to say the write ups add spice to what in some ways is a bit of a one dimentional derby, might interest people who don't usually read this forum etc and might want to read the write ups before deciding where to put there fiver or whatever.

It seems like you'd rather this was a professional gamblers forum only? The derby and Oaks come once a year, and even the people on here who do appear to bet professionally havn't complained about a derby racecard write up. They have the modesty to accept not everyone is identical to them.

Go to Epsom, walk the track and then say its a load of tosh. In the words of Cash Asmussen " When your horse comes down Tattenham Hill ,the last thing you want him to worry about is where he should put his feet next" These are horses running for Group 1 glory with all that goes with it. It makes some horses; it breaks many more.

Epsom's a lovely track, on the open days I make it a habbit to sit down in the winners enclosure with my sandwiches and a beer and admire the view whilst collecting my thoughts.

Well worth getting yourself down there and running the course if you can, it's the most beautiful sense of relief.
