The Two Mile Chasers

That might be as good as Energumene is these days, at the age of 11. It’s also the furthest Jonbon has ever beaten Edwardstone.

Edwardstone's OR is 163. Jonbon has beaten him 11lbs.

174 is a decent rating - I think he'll go up to 175 on Tuesday - but it's a fair bit below Altior, Shishkin and Sprinter Sacre.

For the record, I had Jonbon on 178 going into yesterday's race and I also believe Edwardstone is some way better than 163 so I do think the form is better than the bare bones but it still points to Energumene being off his peak.

Isn't there a doubt of sorts about Jonbon at Cheltenham? If so, it could end up Energumene's to lose.

Unless Sir Gino rocks up in it...

Or Il est Francais…

I actually think Gaelic Warrior might prove to be the good thing in the CC, and I agree that Jonbon has never shown his best at Cheltenham. I don’t think Energumene, at 11, will improve for yesterday’s run.

Question marks over them all in one way or another so considering his commanding win today, his 3rd in an Arkle and a much better jockey on board now, I couldn't resist a little e/w nibble on Matata @ 90/1 with Ladbrokes, I imagine I shall be able to lay it off at half of that once the dust settles.

I wouldn't read too much into today's margin myself. I backed it today because I thought it might be the only one really trying. There were grounds for suspicion about each of the others.

I think the difference with Jonbon from previous visits is how much he’s learned to relax now. He’s a much more complete racehorse now and easier to place in a race

He's won 3 at the track, which favours speed much more than Cheltenham
Without Constitution Hill and El Fabiolo he would have won a Supreme and an Arkle.

I think the oppo will try and put his jumping under pressure. Still isn't always the most fluent.
