I'm assuming 6/1 isn't value unless you're a bookie!
Plus, the other 22 aren't there to get out of each others' way.

So in this instance you're basing your "value" concept on the two criteria of price and number of runners?

I despise the word. It gets used as a reason to be for or against anything these days by the media.

you find it and I'll have a look. We normally buy unraced horses for that price. Problem is that they can be useless or brilliant and it will take a year, and possibly two, to really find out. The spectrum isvery wide but for that money you can hit the jackpot,or not. If you buy a HIT, your spectrum is narrowed. You are buying a horse with form which should win some races (i.e. not useless) but he will never be a Cheltenham horse. However, we are about 50:50 with our horses so far. Brave Inca,RTB and KK being the winners and Fourstars Allstar, Supreme Leader and Oscar being the broken down ones. Tropical View also has his problems. Members want winners, not necesarily a Cheltenham horse and as I have some members in already for the next horse,we are having a look around. The last one I looked at was Dylan Ross who was 5th in the Land Rover but Meade wanted 40k to stay in the yard. Falcarragh is priced about rightand would be a better buy than a point to pointer for twice the money. There is a minefield!!
Don't disagree with you on that - it really is a jungle when it comes to buying and chances are someone will try and stitch you up on something or other as I've seen plenty of horses given "sales runs" in P2P's and Bumpers in recent years ie. ridden purely with a sale in mind.

Without cheating and looking up the relevant bookmaker market, how would you bet on the following:

Win - 25pts, 2nd 10pts, 3rd 5pts, Nr = 0 points
Tissue price of jockey mount (Tissue of race Fav)

Sylvester de Sousa:
14/1 (6/1)
7/2f
11/2 2f (2/1)
20/1 (9/4)
9/2f
13/8f
28/1 (7/2)
14/1 (Evs)
14/1 (4/1)
9/1 (10/3)
10/1 (4/1)
7/2f

Hanagan:
15/2 (9/2)
9/1 (5/1)
9/4f
5/2f
9/1 (5/2)
7/1 (7/2)

Fallon:
4/1f
11/2 (4/1)
11/2 (10/3)
9/1 (7/2) NON RUNNER

Before the NR for Fallon, I'd have made it 4/9 SDS, 15/8 Hanagan, 6/1 Fallon, with Fallon's NR more like 2/5, 7/4 & 8/1.

Current prices available in the William Hill "Wednesday Jockey Challenge":

SDS 4/5
Hanagan 7/4
Fallon 4/1.

Musselburgh today, reasonable sized fields & 2 races over 2m, 1 an amateur riders race, going good (g/s places).

Total Winning Distance Betting:

Coral - over 17L 2/1
Totesport - over 17L 15/8
Ladbrokes - over 16.5L 7/4
paddy power - over 16.5L 6/4
Skybet - over 16L 15/8
VC - over 16L 7/4
Stan James - over 15.75L 7/4
Will Hill - over 15.5L 9/4
Blue Sq - over 15L 7/4

Spread is 14.3 to buy at. Will Hill bet looks a standout of those offered.

I despise the word [value]. It gets used as a reason to be for or against anything these days by the media.

I use the word loosely compared to value worshipers.
I might just as well say I find the odds too mean / skinny / short.
Yes, I've been down the route of the people who worship at the Church Of Value, as defined by them.

Creating my own tissue according to form, track, going, weight, no. of runners, jockey, trainer ... oh, and what about pace?
After that you have jockey/going/no. of runners changes, too.

Then, having done all that, you can get the 'value' odds by comparing your odds with the market's.

As I said, too much work & not much fun ... besides the costs.

Still, not what you mean by 'value' either, I'd guess?

Hard luck, Reizovic was given a bit too much to do there. Make A Track was a lucky enough winner.

Groody Hill 14's into 7/2 and eased to 9/2, a comfortable winner of the h'cap chase for JP and Christy Roche. Arguably no form to shout about...tailed off on his last start...Irish racing at it's best!!
