What Are You Listening To Now?

Midnight at the Oasis is probably my favourite.

Ah yes...! Maria Maldur or something similar. lovely record

i pay. I still get CD's . just bought a superb Mozart recording for a tenner and the great Marvin Gaye album "I want you" (perhaps the finest most achingly beautiful soul track of them all) for a fiver. Thats two starbucks and dont begrudge it at all

Found a Pendulum cd in my son's room. Have always liked them when I've seen them on the telly; Glastonbury and such like. Intend to buy [yes buy] some more.

Well one was easy to listen but the other I'm struggling with! I'll get there.

I can guess which one. The premise with bands like Blut aus Nord is to basically use the voice as another instrument. There are no hooks to grab onto and it's pretty much as dense and uncommercial as music gets.

Listened to it straight through the other night. I just ignored the lyrics as such and it all made sense.

Jesus i tried that blus is whatever..... horrible... 3 seconds enough

But dont know why. 95% of rock/inde music is emperors new clothes garbage IMO

Does anyone really want to put that on first thing in the morning or when its a sunny autumn afternoon or when youve got a nice bint round on a saturday night?

Never had much time for miserable music or droning boring guitars admittedly

I think some philli soul is needed after that

A jazz masterpiece, a great jazz vocalist with perfect soul, a great lusty track that always grabs you, my favourite living saxohponist, an often overlooked track from a legend, a stunning piece from a wonderful uk vocalist, a truely horny playful track from a great current soul star

Better than headbanging...

Alton Ellis.

Since I "discovered" him last month I have been listening to almost nothing else. I left it a bit late, however, because he died in 2008. Nobody else I know had heard of him either, but he should have been a star. I think he was in his native Jamaica, but not outside.

Give the Youtube mix of his music a try if you like the feel of the better Chess, Motown and Trojan records. His music is tuneful, rhythmic and sunny, but it is also genuine. No showing off.

Here's one to get you started:
