Does anybody at all on here listen to old-skool Rock anymore? :mad:
All I see nowqadays are recommendations for simplistic Jamaican stuff, tired soul-less electronica, and some pretentious Black Metal trying to sound classical-orchestral.
Not good or inspiring.

But many find reggae and soul and dance a lot more inspiring than playing imaginary guitars in a bedsit

I like goats head soup (heartbreaker especially) but I don't go around convincing myself its high art compared with two sevens clash. Nor would the stones either (Richards loved sly and Robbie I recall)

Anything is more inspiring than playing air-guitar. Listening to real rock guitarists is inspiring. :)
Clive, Rock is the defining musical force of our time. Not reggae, disco, 80's electronica. They've all gone the way of the dodo. Rock is enduring, evolving, and dare I say it, inspiring for a new generation too. 'Tis a pity you don't "get it".
 
That Summoning music is very Mike Oldfield'ish. I like it. Me and one of my old boss's used to say a brilliant job would be finding music for films and adverts. The series on American rock that's on BBC4 at the moment is good.
 
Football became less and less important when I stopped going in the mid 90s. I could never vibe with an all seater Old Trafford and the different clientele it attracted once success came.

Now, I do well remember Clear Blue Sky from way, way back in the day. I was quite taken with CBS back then. They were cutting edge at the time, with their fusion of prog rock and bluesrock. All the more notable considering they were just a bunch of teenagers, if memory serves me correctly.
Yes, they were good, but never were -- or were never going to be -- an equal of Mountain or Cream who they were trying to emulate.

Disco is dead? For instance ? You really are out of touch aren't you. Even I'm aware of the huge interest in past year or so in chic, ewf etc

I suppose reggae is dead because its audience doesn't matter then?

Rock evolving? If I stumble across something like, the artic monkeys I really am hearing a new sound quite unlike anything from 25 years ago. Yeah right

Who recommended to Orb here? I've been listening to some of that. Littlle fluffy clouds etc

It is a bit beefhearty in places. Not as much as Fusion - Border Town which I posted a few months ago on here which was from around the same era.

Never heard of Mountain Of Cream, going to check them out now.

As a side bet, I'd take 4/5 that you've got some old Budgie albums stashed away somewhere. :D
